Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) / Randomized Field Experiment

Refers to an experimental research design in which participants are randomly assigned to a treatment or a control group. Most social scientists consider random assignment to lead to the highest level of confidence that observed effects are the result of the program and not other variables.

Prevention & Education

Substance abuse prevention and education programs aim to prevent individuals from the harmful physical, social, and psychological consequences of drug and alcohol use or abuse. These community-focused programs seek to prevent, through education, the dangers posed by drugs and alcohol and to change the behaviors that may lead to substance abuse.
